How COVID is affecting your vagina!

👙Ok mujeres! So I know a lot of you have been unable to find your go-to pads, body soaps, body washes, detergents and even toilet paper of course!!

👙So, a good number of women are calling in stating they have symptoms of "itching, irritation and redness!"

👙So first ladies please note that it is likely not an infection, especially if you don't suffer from infections.

👙A lot of my patients are only able to find scented toilet paper, scented pads, scented detergent, etc. These are bad!!!

👙So if you know you have fallen victim to your not so usual products, please avoid them if possible.

Tips:

🧼Use a menstrual cup or menstrual underwear like @shethinx if you can't find your usual pads!

🧼Use only warm water in your genital area if no soaps such as Dove unscented can be found. Remember, your vagina is a self-cleansing organ so you can go without soap for a short time if necessary! You aren't going anywhere special anyway! Also don't forget you could use baby body wash like Johnson's! That's pretty safe!

🧼If you are limited on your hypoallergenic or unscented detergent, only wash your intimates with it and wash the rest of your clothes with what you can find.  You can even use vinegar or baking soda if you really can't find anything!

🧼Instead of scented toilet paper, hey, use a peri-bottle to clean with warm water (you might still have one in your drawer from after having a baby), Kleenex, unscented wipes if you can find those and just shower to clean yourself.

👙So if you are suffering from these symptoms and believe it could be from your change in product use, again avoid using the new product and if your symptoms are really bad, you can apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone 1% cream to the external genitalia for about a week to treat this contact dermatitis. That's essentially what it is, but in your vulvar/genital area.

❤️Stay safe, stay home and keep your vaginas healthy!

Keeping it real,

💛Dr. Erica
