Tubal Ligation versus Vasectomy

Tubal vs vasectomy...

I know many women whose partners don't want to get a vasectomy. I feel you ladies!

But....you have options. If you want something permanent learn about the tubal ligation.

You can have it done at the time of a cesarean delivery or have what we call an interval tubal which is performed laparoscopically or less rarely right after a vaginal delivery via a small umbilical incision called a mini-lap.

Laparoscopic sterilization is a minimally invasive procedure that includes two to three small abdominal incisions and use of a technique to occlude or excise the fallopian tubes.

There are several methods of tubal occlusion or excision for laparoscopic female sterilization including burning of the segments/electrosurgery, mechanical methods (silicone band, titanium clip, or spring clip), and partial or complete salpingectomy.

Tubal and vasectomy are both 99% effective, but a tubal does potentially have more risks.

Also, both last a lifetime and should not be performed if you are not sure if you want more children in the future.

There is a small risk of regret, but most women are happy because they know they are free from birth control or concerns of unwanted pregnancy!!
